Ravenpaw watched in horror as Tigerclaw and Fireheart paused directly in front of the window. The dark tabby growled, "Are you sure he's here?" Fireheart nodded and mewed, "Positive. He was here when Graystripe and I visited him about three moons ago. He thinks he's safe from you here, Tigerstar." Ravenpaw froze in horror. TigerSTAR?!? "Oh StarClan no." He thought. His old enemy, the cat who had terrorized him for moons, was now leader of ThunderClan?!?
Tigerstar pressed, "And he'll be easy enough to kill?" Fireheart's cruelly amused words chilled Ravenpaw's heart. "Have you no faith in me? Of course he will; he hasn't had to fight so much as a mouse since he left ThunderClan, and the only protection he has is that kittypet Barley." Fireheart gave a dark chuckle and added, "Trust me, it'll be easy, easier than killing Bluestar and Graystripe." Ravenpaw stared at Fireheart, shock and fear nearly overwhelming his mind. Without another word, Tigerstar and Fireheart raced into the barn, two silent shadows.
For a moment, there was silence. Then Tigerstar's enraged yowl sounded from the barn. "They're gone!" Both cats padded out of the den, the ThunderClan leader glaring at his warrior. "You told me they'd be there!" he snarled. Fireheart snapped, "Tigerstar, didn't you recognize that third scent?" Ravenpaw shared a confused glance with Barley. Third scent? Tigerstar replied in a low growl, "No,  did you?" Fireheart's voice held a hint of pain as he mewed, "Of course I did. It was Spottedleaf. StarClan must have warned him that we were coming."
For a moment there was silence. Then Tigerstar spoke. "We're not doing any good here. Let's get back to camp before the Clan starts to wonder where we are." Fireheart mewed stiffly, "You go, I'll catch up." The dark tabby nodded, and bounded off into the rainy darkness. Fireheart stared at the barn for a long moment, then he spoke in a voice that was cold as ice. "I trusted you, Spottedleaf. I thought you'd always be there for me. But now that I've saved the Clan from Bluestar's disasterous reign you turn on me? I will never forget this betrayal, Spottedleaf." He stood still a moment longer, then bounded off after his leader.
Ravenpaw stared after the flame-colored tom. Barley glanced at him and mewed softly, "Are you okay?" The black loner shook his head and murmered, "He's a traitor." He shuddered, then continued, "He helped kill Bluestar and Graystripe. He told me I'd be safe here, then he led Tigerstar here to kill me! He's a traitor!" He put his head on his paws, shaking with grief and mental exhaustion. He lay like that for a long time, trying to convince himself it wasn't true. It couldn't be true. But it was.
Eventually, Ravenpaw sat up. "We need to get out of here." Barley nodded, looking relieved that his fried was okay. "Where do we go?" Ravenpaw thought for a moment, then he asked, "Didn't you tell me you had a sister?"
Yes, Fireheart has indeed turned on Ravenpaw. And we will be seeing Violet next time.
